This is a test post to wordpress from iPod touch / iPhone using wordpress open source application.
Typing is not too comfortable but can be done. With time speed will improve.The good about this little program is that you can write when you are off line and post it when you get on line.

Apple account for free applications without a credit card

How to get a free apple account to download the free applications without using your credit card information.

• Fire up your iTunes Store
• Click App store on left pane  ( If you try to open account with iTunes it will insist on you giving credit card information)
• Choose a free application and double click to download
• A pop up will ask you for your apple account
• Click create new account
• Agree to terms and it will take you to a page with options of setting up account with credit card and “none”
• Choose “none” and proceed
• You will get an email in the email address you have provided
• Verify by clicking the link
• This should take you back to a login in iTunes
• Now you are all set to download all free applications.
• Give a couple of minutes between setting up account and email verification. Now enjoy your free downloads

Windows 7 update

Got some time to install windows 7 on Ubuntu 8.04 using xVM virtual machine from sun; as a matter of fact the installation was trouble free and everything went very well with the first installation. Unlike my experience with xVM on windows which I had to do a number of times before I could get it running. Still the windows host is giving me start up issues.

• USB connectivity is fine in the guest operating system, I could access data from my 2.5″ external hard drive without any problems.
• Installed my HP 1012 printer easily again no problems.
• Installed Markbook 2008 and works fine
• Something that does not work too well in the virtual machine is the windows audio it crackles. I think it may be a driver issue, should play around with it to see if it can be changed.

Windows experience index for the virtual machine are as follows.
Processor            3.9
RAM                    3.9
Graphics              1.0
Gaming graphics  1.0
Primary hard disk 5.9
Mind you the video ram was 64 MB and 3D acceleration was not turned on.
So far both xVM 2.1.2 and Windows 7 are working fine and doing things as they should.

Windows 7 on Virtual box 2.1.2 xVM

Yeah I had to test out windows 7 so downloaded the dvd image and installed it on my laptop, the configuration is intel centrino 1.7 GHz. 1.5 GB Ram Toshiba M70. However I had to try it out a number of times before I succeeded. This was one of the problems I faced, I guess the problem is with Virtual Box.

• Created a new virtual machine.

• Booted up the image.

This started the installation process smoothly.
Answered the usual questions and had to agree to terms of service.
This was followed by the following sequence of actions

• Copying files went well

• Expanding files-This is where I had a problem, when it reaches 86 % the process stops. The virtual machine says there is no hard disk space so suspends the installation. After a couple of tries I still could not get it to go beyond this step. I knew I had enough hard disk space.Then finally at this state I created a snapshot.Using the dropdown of the virtual box menu I activated resume -Viola there goes the rest of the installation

The next item in the installation process is

• Installing features

• Installing updates

• Completing installations

During the above processes the os restarts a number of times followed by the final set up.
Now it works fine.
I believe the video memory should be set at least to 64 mb for proper working.
The ram is set to 512 mb no problems so far.

The OS automatically downloads the needed drivers etc.

However I was unable to install Norton 360 2.0 or Zone alarm.

So far so good.

Insert your usb key  after firing up your virtual machine 2.06.
You will see the the “Found new hard ware pop up”
Click not this time
highlight “Install software automatically recommended”
The software that your are installing is not verified by windows will pop up
Hit continue any way
The wizard has installed software for your virtual machine pop’s up and you are all done.
Hit finish
Unplug your usb and plug it in again.
You should be able to see your usb mounted on the desktop.

This worked for me.

How to add unrar archiving tool in ubuntu

• First add the following repository to your sources list
• Without quotes do the following in the terminal
• “sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list”
• When your sources list opens add the following
• “deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy multiverse”
• save and close your sources list
• “sudo apt-get update”
• “sudo apt-get install unrar”

Mac4Lin and Compiz

Recently I ame across this blog where you could convert your linux – ubuntu to mac themes and it is an awesome tutorial. Combine it with compiz and your have an excellent desktop. I have a few screen shots here for you.
